Another "Move" for Global NIM

August 09, 2017

Let gratitude for the past inspire us with trust for the future.  Francois Fenelon

In Acts 16:6-10 Paul was redirected by the Holy Spirit to go to Macedonia, not the two other destinations he thought were in his playbook. Although the Bible does not answer the question, don’t you wonder if he was caught off-guard or questioned God’s direction? What we know is that his obedience led to the introduction of the Gospel of Jesus to Europe. Imagine if he had not heeded God’s direction?

Since involuntary retirement from the energy business last summer, we have prayed to know what was in God’s playbook for our time here in the Pittsburgh area and for Global NIM. Prayer led to a sense of God’s calling, with confirmation that we are to redirect our time and energy to local ministry work, as well as not-so-local family in CA, FL and OK. This discernment includes closing Global NIM by the end of this year and completing dissolution by mid-2018.

The question we are asked most often is whether this has come as a surprise to us.  Oh, yes!  And the transition can only be defined as bittersweet. Our global mission partners have become part of our family. As you know, we have shared many joys and challenges together, have seen God move mightily in their lives, have watched their ministries expand and impact thousands of lives by sharing the love of Jesus.   Likewise, our lives have been impacted, and we hope yours, also. Thankfully, with technology, we can remain linked for years to come.

What has settled our hearts about this transition is God’s care of our mission partners themselves.  Over the last six months God has linked us with other like-minded Christian non-profits (501c3’s) which either already have a relationship with one of our partners or are willing to partner with them as Global NIM winds down. This allows you to continue supporting any of our global partners in which you’ve taken an interest! When God calls, He always makes a way.

In the next few newsletters, we will outline several of our partners’ ongoing projects, resource needs and the non-profit organizations that will assume Global NIM’s role as conduit for such support.  [As a matter of clarification, Global NIM will accept donations through September 30th.]   In addition, you’ll be blessed as you read testimonies, Andrew’s trip summary to Agape School in Kenya, and our Board member reflections within these newsletters.

Regarding our focus toward local ministry, our church, North Way Christian Community, will open a new campus in the Beaver Valley area. We have accepted the invitation to serve as that new campus’s Outreach/Missions Representatives, meaning we will help the body of Christ mobilize to be the church in the community. In addition, Pittsburgh is a sanctuary city with an estimated 25,000 refugees. North Way has a developing ministry with these new immigrant families, and we are eager to get involved as the Lord directs.

Feel free to ask us questions about this “move!”  And please support us and our mission partners in prayer as we walk in obedience and lean into God’s direction.
