PUTTUR, INDIA - GOOD SHEPHERD MISSION
This well-established ministry uses social service as a bridge to share the love of Jesus Christ in the area of Puttur, Andhra Pradesh, India.

HISTORY - GSM was founded in 1979 by Henry Bhasker and his late wife, Viola. Located in the city of Puttur, Andhra Pradesh, India, the main campus of the ministry includes an orphanage, a home for the elderly and a hospital for the poor. About one mile from the main campus is an HIV/AIDS/TB Centre now under construction.

GSM also operates a satellite location in Kolladam, A.P., with a boys-only orphanage, a rural medical clinic and a small elementary school.

The demands on Henry and the GSM staff are incredibly diverse and challenging; however, their close walk with the Lord Jesus enables them to experience and celebrate the numerous ways that God provides for the needs of this outreach to the poorest of the poor.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES:

  • Twelve village churches, each staffed with an evangelist
  • Two orphanages caring for more than 150 children in Puttur and Kolladam
  • Free cataract surgery for the poor in Puttur
  • New hospital in Puttur, where preference is not given to those who can pay
  • Care and Support Centre for HIV/AIDS and TB Patients, under construction
  • Home for the elderly and outcast in Puttur
  • Grade school in Kolladam, where about 100 children are taught by 2 teachers
  • Medical clinic in Kolladam
  • Daily meals, lodging and clothing for the needy

    ORPHAN SPONSORSHIPS:

    Through the dedicated efforts of the GSM staff, children at the Mission and are housed and fed in clean environments, surrounded with love and grounded in Christian teachings.   At an appropriate age, those with the intellect, skills and motivation to pursue higher education are given that opportunity with the goal of molding young Christian men and women to be contributing members of society.
